A wing created from experience...
In pure Boomerang tradition, the new competition tool from Gin Seok Song - the Boomerang 5 - is available now…. The legend lives on…
After 2 years development and intensive testing during the 2007 World Championships and the last World Cup in Ibaraki (Japan), the GIN Team have finalized the 5th generation of Boomerang. After many trials, the final profile selection fits with Gin’s traditional Boomerang competition characteristics. GIN pilots will immediately feel at home with more performance than ever. The objectives have remained the same since the Boomerang’s conception: To offer the best performing glider (sink rate, climb rate, speed and glide ratio), with typical GIN handling and a secure, confidence inspiring feel suited to the best competition pilots.
In Flight...
As a tradition, the handling is an important matter for Gin and his factory pilots. Gin cannot create a wing without that perfect feel: performance has no meaning without precise handling; this is part of Gin’s philosophy. This is also one of the reason’s why many of the World’s best pilots continue to fly GIN’s Boomerang after so many years. The new Boomerang 5 offers precise feedback that makes searching for and maximising thermals very efficient and makes following the lift in convergence lines easier. Easily coping with the strongest thermals, the Boomerang 5 eagerly pulls you forwards, towards and into the core, facilitating your turn into lift in the most efficient way. The sink rate in strong thermals is extremely good, probably the best on the competition scene. The Boomerang 5 allows you to negotiate even turbulent thermals with a minimum of brake action, allowing you to maintain the best climbing efficiency. Side collapses are rare. When they do occur, rotation builds slowly and is easily managed by competent pilots
Active Trimmer Piloting...
The Boomerang 5 is equipped with efficient trimmers that have been designed to be sensitive to a small range in use. With only a few cm of travel overall, learning to use the trim system effectively will give considerable benefits.
For an advantage in thermalling, slow down by just 1 cm to gain more feedback and a better climb rate for thermalling efficiency. Trim speed has been optimised for straight-line flight. When accelerating, releasing the trimmers by no more than 1,5 cm helps to stabilise the wing in transitions, giving a glide/speed advantage.
Stability...
Performance is nothing without stability: performance needs to be useable. The Boomerang 5 profile is stable at all levels of speed. The new Rigifoil Max leading edge has been developed to help attain the highest speeds ever, with stability.
The Boomerang 5 is 100% Skytex, a mix of durable, lightweight and reinforced fabrics to not only optimize performance, but also retain the glider’s performance even after many flight hours. The lines are a mix of unsheathed Dyneema and Aramid.
